Cigars & Spirits Celebration's are the perfect time to have a great meal, imbibe in some fine spirits and step out on the porch with your glass and a fine cuban cigar.  While almost any beer goes very well with a cuban cigar, the distilled spirits require a little selection. 

Choices are unlimited but a rule of thumb is those with higher alcohol content and spirits with more age tend to go better with the stronger cigars, such as Bolivar, Partagas and Montecristo's.  Lighter drinks work best with medium to milder smokes such as H Upmann, Cuaba & Diplomatico's. 

Stick with premium spirits that are in the same "league" as your cuban cigars.  Usually the inexpensive spirits cost less for the same reason cheap cigars cost less: poor ingredients, less aging or mechanical processing.  Inexpensive spirits tend to assault and numb your palate and will lessen your enjoyment of a fine cuban cigar. 

Port, wine or sherry also go well.  Stay away from creme based or rich, sweet deserts before enjoying your cigar, as they will leave too many flavors and mask the cigar.  One exception is liqueurs, they go well despite some being sweet, with Grande Marnier being a favorite of mine.   Non-alcoholic beverage choices include Iced Tea, strong coffees such as expresso or cappuccino and of course the old favorite for cigar tastings,  Ice Water.
