History of Father's Day
Father's Day was first celebrated in the state of Washington on June 19, 1910.  Sonora Dodd wanted to have a special day for fathers after she had listened to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

Her father, William Smart had sacrificed much for his family.  He was a Civil War veteran.  His wife died during the birth of their sixth child.  After her death he raised the children as a single parent on a rural farm in the state of Washington.

Sonora knew and understood how loving, caring and unselfish her father was.  She chose the day June 19, because it was her father's birthday.

In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge agreed and supported the notion of a national Father's Day.

President Lyndon Johnson made Father's Day official in 1966.  He signed a presidential proclamation making the 3rd Sunday in June Father's Day.

While important for us to sell our fine cuban cigars, since those & cigar accessories are all we sell, we decided this issue should be all about Father's Day. 

As I write this, I think of my own Father, the owner of Canadian Cigar.  I look back on the lessons I have learned from him regarding business and a few come to mind.  My Dad always taught us kids that if we work hard, we are honest, kind, keep our word and pay attention to details, we will succeed.  He also taught me to treat employees as if they were part of our family and to have fun in life.  Lastly he offered the wisdom that "people do not judge a company on how good their service is, they expect that with their purchase.  They do, however, judge a company on how they handle things when they go wrong".  He feels it is critical to correct problems right away, apologize for an error, remedy the situation to the customers satisfaction and prevent the problem from occurring in the future.  I think I'll buy my Dad a cigar...
